Water scarcity is an escalating global issue, with the United Nations projecting that India will be one of the most severely affected nations by 2050. At Unitd Living Space, we are acutely aware of this pressing challenge and are committed to implementing innovative water-saving solutions in our MultiUtility Homes (MUH) to contribute to a more sustainable future. Here’s how we’re tackling water scarcity head-on with cutting-edge technologies and thoughtful design.
The 3 R Approach: Reduce, Reuse, and Recharge
At the heart of our water management strategy is the innovative 3 R approach: Reduce, Reuse, and Recharge.
Reduce Aerated Water Fixtures
We equip our homes with aerated fixtures by Jaguar, which mix air with water to maintain pressure while reducing water flow. This simple yet effective technology can save up to 65% of water without compromising on performance. Aerated faucets and showerheads in bathrooms and kitchens help minimize water usage while ensuring a comfortable experience for residents. This reduction in water consumption at the source is a crucial first step in our holistic approach to water conservation.
Reuse
ECOSTP Technology and Rainwater Harvesting Our Waste water treatment technology, ECOSTP (Ecological Sewage Treatment Plant), is a game-changer in water reuse. This system treats sewage in decentralized, self-sustaining underground chambers without the need for power, chemicals, or human intervention. Inspired by the natural processes found in a cow’s stomach, ECOSTP uses biomimicry to efficiently treat wastewater. The treated water meets all Pollution Control Board (PCB) norms and is suitable for non-potable uses such as gardening, toilet flushing, and car washing. By reusing treated water, we significantly reduce the demand for fresh water.
We also incorporate advanced rainwater harvesting systems that capture and store rainwater in dedicated sumps. This water is then ozonized to ensure its purity and used for various non-potable purposes within the community. Any excess rainwater, after consumption, is recharged into the ground, replenishing the aquifers and supporting the local water table.
Recharge
Groundwater Replenishment Our commitment to sustainability extends to recharging groundwater. The excess treated water from ECOSTP and rainwater harvesting is treated and returned to the ground, replenishing the aquifers and restoring the natural balance. At Unitd 49, this method allows us to recharge a net excess of 1.5 crore liters back into the groundwater annually. This not only benefits our community but also helps in maintaining the local water table, ensuring long-term water availability.
A Vision for a Sustainable Future
At Unitd Living Space, we are not just building homes; we are creating a blueprint for sustainable living. Our innovative water-saving solutions are a testament to our commitment to addressing water scarcity and promoting environmental stewardship. By integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices into our MultiUtility Homes, we are paving the way for a future where water is managed wisely and responsibly.
